The Rusty Haggis Community Radio is a child-led, non-profit radio station empowering young voices across the county.

We help children discover confidence, creativity, and community through the power of storytelling and sound.

Our mission: To amplify children’s voices and encourage creativity through radio and digital storytelling.

Our Story

The Rusty Haggis Community Radio Station began with a simple question from Forest, Andy’s eight-year-old home-educated son:

“How did you and Mum meet?”

Andy told him that they first met at college while studying Creative Media Production, where they both took part in the college radio — Wiggle Radio. Forest’s next question changed everything:

“Can we make a radio station for me and my home-ed friends?”

From that spark, the idea for a home-education radio station was born — a space where children could create, present, and share their voices with the world.

As brainstorming progressed, we realised that creativity and opportunity shouldn’t stop at the edge of home education. Every child — whether learning at home, in school, or in the wider community — deserves the chance to explore their voice, gain confidence, and learn through media.

With schools and colleges struggling to fund creative media projects due to government cutbacks, we decided to establish The Rusty Haggis Community Radio Station as a charitable organisation, ensuring all children could access broadcasting and storytelling opportunities.

The Rusty Haggis Night Show Where the lights dim and the music gets rich. When the town goes quiet, Rusty the Haggis (our AI DJ) keeps the signal warm with late-night grooves, cosy chat, and community stories made for the after-hours.
