The Rusty Haggis is an independently operated, non-profit, volunteer-run radio service and is not licensed by Ofcom. Notwithstanding this status, we are committed to acting in accordance with the principles and regulatory expectations applied to licensed UK radio services, including accuracy, harm and offence, fairness, and due impartiality where relevant.

Programming

The Rusty Haggis is a child-led, non-profit community radio station. Young people shape our schedule, pick the music, present the shows and co-produce features—supported by trained adult mentors and a clear safeguarding framework. Daytimes spotlight new music and local stories; evenings showcase youth-run specialist shows across indie, electronic, hip-hop, folk, jazz and more. Weekends bring family programming, live sessions with local bands, youth round-tables and outside broadcasts from community events. We’re here to amplify young voices—responsibly, creatively and for the community.

Playlist

At The Rusty Haggis, is the musical thread running through Leicestershire—bringing together tracks that keep our whole county connected. We span the decades, from the groovy sounds of the ’60s and ’70s to the latest releases. Expect a mix of soul, Motown and rock alongside pop, dance and indie—something for listeners of every age.

As a child-led, non-profit community station, young people help shape the sound with guidance from trained mentors. Our goal is to curate a playlist that resonates county-wide, reflects local tastes and keeps you tuning in—wherever you are in Leicestershire, The Rusty Haggis has the music to match your mood.
